Electricity Services

Why is the sector important?

Across the built environment, electricity is often one of the most substantial operating expenses, and yet it is still one of the least understood. Many organizations still rely solely on utility bills or monthly summaries to assess their performance, leaving major gaps in visibility. This broad view cannot show when inefficiencies emerge, when faults begin to develop, or when equipment is quietly drawing more power than expected.

Since many systems operate continuously, even small inefficiencies compound and lead to significant energy loss, higher operating costs, and reduced equipment longevity. Without real-time, granular insights into how electricity is consumed, organizations are left reacting to problems only after the financial impact has already occurred.

What are we doing to mitigate these issues?

Blue IoT’s electricity service is designed to increase transparency by providing in-depth insights across both mains and circuit levels. We begin with mains-level monitoring, giving users both real-time and historical insight into overall consumption, demand peaks, voltage stability, and power quality. This establishes a clear baseline for how a building behaves across its operating cycle and in comparison to other buildings within a site.

We then extend this capability with circuit-level intelligence, tracking load profiles, active and reactive power, voltage irregularities, harmonics, and power factor performance. These metrics reveal the behaviour of individual assets and systems, pinpointing exactly where inefficiencies, faults, or abnormal loads are originating.
To achieve granular visibility without the high cost of widespread hardware installation, we use virtual metering at Blue IoT. Virtual metering is a software-defined approach that provides detailed submetering insights without requiring invasive or expensive physical meters. All data is then securely streamed to our Encompass Blue Platform.

How our approach improves the issue?

With all meter data stored in Encompass Blue, users are able to utilise a single platform for analysing patterns, comparing historical performance, detecting anomalies, and validating maintenance actions. Instead of simply responding to already existing problems retrospectively, users can act proactively by correcting abnormal loads, addressing voltage irregularities, and fixing equipment before issues escalate.

This approach transforms electricity management from reactive to predictive, precise, and proactive. Buildings can operate more efficiently, energy waste is reduced, equipment life is extended, and operational costs can be decreased. Monitoring electricity can result in a smarter, more stable, and more sustainable electricity strategy that gives organizations full control over how energy is utilised across their sites.
